About me
My name is Caden Ryan, I am currently an undergraduate student at Auburn University pursuing my bachelor's degree in Horticulture, with a focus in Nursery and Greenhouse Science. Born in Salem, Alabama, it was rare that I wasn't constantly surrounded by the south's beautiful and diverse scenery. For as long as I can remember, I have been enthralled by nature and it's effervescence. As a very young child I often caught lizards, snakes, or any other small animals I could find. I could almost always be found outside with dirt encrusted under my fingernails and a smile on my face. I like to think that my grandparents instilled this intense love of nature in me, as I can't remember a Sunday I wasn't picking fruits in the Garden with my Nana, or tending to the chickens with my PawPaw. My favorite past-time at Nana and Paw's was to venture to the small stream that ran along the woods of their property, where I would sit and watch the mellifluous run of the water, or catch the salamanders that frequented its banks. As I continued to grow, I realized that I didn't feel much need to express myself or find solitary in other people, and that I had already found a level of comfort in the natural world around me. I often felt misunderstood and like I didn't belong, which only further strengthened the bond I had created with nature.
Growing together
I am a proud student of Auburn University's Horticulture program. I plan to persevere in my studies with dignity, and hope that I continue to make connections with the local flora around me. I am beyond grateful to have built relationships with others in my area who are passionate and knowledgable of horticulture. I hope to continue to do so, as well as create change and inform others of the many ways plants impact our lives!
